The Complete Sherlock Holmes

by Arthur Conan Doyle

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who first appeared in publication in 1887. He is the creation of Scottish born author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A brilliant London-based detective, Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess, and is renowned for his skillful use of deductive reasoning (somewhat mistakenly - see inductive reasoning) and astute observation to solve difficult cases. He is arguably the most famous fictional detective ever created, and is one of the best known and most universally recognizable literary characters in any genre. Conan Doyle wrote four novels and fifty-six short stories that featured Holmes. All but four stories were narrated by Holmes' friend and biographer, Dr. John H. Watson, two having been narrated by Holmes himself, and two others written in the third person. The first two stories, short novels, appeared in Beeton's Christmas Annual for 1887 and Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in 1890. The character grew tremendously in popularity with the beginning of the first series of short stories in The Strand Magazine in 1891; further series of short stories and two serialized novels appeared almost right up to Conan Doyle's death in 1930. The stories cover a period from around 1878 up to 1903, with a final case in 1914. in this collection you will find: Novels:• A Study in Scarlet• The Sign of the Four• The Hound of the Baskervilles• The Valley of Fear Short Story Collections:• The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes• The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes• The Return of Sherlock Holmes• His Last Bow• The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes

From Handguns to Paintbrushes: A Memoir of Self-Destruction, Rock Bottom, Hope, Change, and Love

by de Leyer, Joseph "Jeff"

Jeff de Leyer is the grandson of a Dutch immigrant and equestrian champion, Harry de Leyer. This in itself, created an impression of a young man born into a world of privilege and entitlement. However, this could not be any further from the truth. His biological mother and father abandoned him on a doorstep when he was only three years old, leaving him with a void that was nearly impossible to fill. Jeff spent his teen and young adult years on the streets of New York making a name for himself as a drug dealer. This is where he not only found acceptance, but also a sense of family he so desperately wanted and needed. In 1998 at 21 years of age, Jeff was arrested and later convicted of a gang-related murder, after a drug deal went horribly wrong. In prison, he was a high-ranking member of the United Blood Nation, involving him in gang wars, fights, and riots. Rock bottom came years later at the age of 39. At this point, the only thing he was looking for was redemption. He decided it was time to walk away from the only life he had ever known. This is the compelling and true story of the rise and fall of a New York Ecstasy Kingpin. It is an eye-opening excursion through the pulse of the drug world, street life, drug addiction, prison, art and true love. Through his passion for art, desire for education and love, he rose above his circumstances to embrace a new vision of the world around him.

Nostra Dame: A True Story

by Jacqueline Evans

Nostra Dame, the true story of a woman trying to make sense of a mysterious world. Suppressing what came naturally for most of my early years; a pivotal moment in my mid-twenties opened a door to what lay dormant. The depth of knowledge that ensued began to snowball, leading me to predict global events and high-profile murder investigations. Each piece of information imparted in fractals, like pieces to a puzzle; and it was down to me, to put the pieces together.

Taming the Lion Tamers: The Inside Story of a Landmark Sex Abuse Case

by David Flowers

Eddie Fischer was a teacher at Porter-Gaud, an elite private school in Charleston, South Carolina, for ten years. He was also a serial pedophile. Shortly after he was hired, administrators at the school learned about his sexual interest in young boys but did nothing to stop him. Fischer molested dozens of boys at the school. When they were finally confronted by the parents of a victim, the administrators allowed Fischer to resign quietly and then recommended him for employment at other schools in Charleston where he went on to molest more students for another fifteen years before he was finally arrested. This is the true story of how Fischer was finally stopped and the determined efforts by some of Fischer’s victims to expose the truth about Porter-Gaud’s role in enabling, supporting, and advancing Fischer’s criminal career which spanned four decades. Utilizing court transcripts and first-hand accounts, David Flowers shares the innovative and unconventional strategies, coupled with the remarkable courage of the victims, which exposed and defeated the arrogance of the school and its grossly negligent administrators. David Flowers is a former attorney who spent his career representing victims of sexual abuse in civil litigation. He is uniquely qualified to tell this story because he is one of the lawyers who represented the plaintiffs against Porter-Gaud School and its minions.

The Real Book Thief (How To Steal Another Author's Work And Nearly Get Away With It)

by Ingrid Black

In October 2015, crime writer Ingrid Black discovered that her first novel The Dead, the story of a former FBI agent tracking down a serial killer in Dublin, had been plagiarised and was being sold under a different name by another author on Kindle.

The thief's name was Joanne Clancy, a former Kindle All Star, and the book that she called Tear Drop was No 1 in the Irish crime fiction charts at the time. Not only that, but she had a second book scheduled for release in a few weeks time, and that one turned out to be a carbon copy of Ingrid Black's second book about the same character, The Dark Eye. The Real Book Thief tells the story of how Ingrid Black discovered what had happened and how she went about trying to find out more about the mysterious woman who had stolen her work.

PI Revelations: True Celebrity, Political, and Cop Case Stories

by Rob Kimmons

PI Revelations: True Celebrity, Political & Cop Case Stories is a collection of more than 30 real investigative cases over my years in the business. Everything here is true, and I’m sharing a lot of secrets that I’ve kept in my files until now. Some of these secrets were kept at the request of law enforcement, such as my help in the Oklahoma City Bombing tragedy. Others were just filed away by interesting names like Donald Trump, Ferdinand Marcos and Ross Perot. I’ve sent cops to jail, including my Killer Cop case, but it’s not all drama. There’s fun too, like seizing Mexico’s Air Force One and being circled by buzzards while photographing a high flying wife. Shotguns, big dogs and being wanted for kidnapping add the fear factor. From plane crashes to crazy spouses in divorces, Texas’ missing Democrats and the antics of the rich, read it first here.I’ve grouped these cases by type, and there are five sections packed with investigative strategies and tactics, as well as the outcome in court.Divorces and Child CustodyGone are the days when PIs could track down children stolen by spouses and grab them up to return them to the one with custody. But, I did some of that before the laws changed, and it got me into some trouble in one case for sure. I was accused by the Alabama State Police of kidnapping when I grabbed one child. Read about the crazy things people do in divorces.Cops, Courts and Investigators Behind the ScenesSometimes in the legal system there’s downright cheating, legal malfeasance, investigative perjury and even bad cops who kill. Read here about how I’ve helped in these cases to get the right person into prison.Backstage Business, Politics and MoneyRead case stories about big money, political shenanigans and government prosecutorial abuses, including a jailed personal friend. Corporate investigations, drug use and high flying parties are all covered here. I’ve even had to fire my attorney client for unethical tactics.Airline Crashes and the Lawsuit AftermathThere’s nothing more tragic than the victims of airline crashes. The victims’ families want some justice, and a lot of money is involved. Read about rooms full of lawyers and the tactics they use to win.Names You Know, Case Stories You Don’tI sued Donald Trump and tracked down assets hidden by Ferdinand Marcos, and we’re talking $50 million in Texas alone. The Wall Street Journal stiffed me on an invoice to do some background investigating of Ross Perot when he ran for the presidency. More names here as well. These case stories are fun, scary, sometimes brutal, but all true, so give it a read.

Narcissist Unbreakable Bonds (Transcend Mediocrity Book 64)

by J.B. Snow

Many people wonder why women who are verbally, emotionally, physically and sexually abused by their partners are still hanging onto the relationship. These women can end up in a hospital fighting for their lives. They can get their children taken away due to exposing them to an abusive male. They can lose all of their relationships, money and dignity in this relationship, but still they come back to their abuser.
Not only do these women bounce back from the abuse to rekindle the romance with their abusive partners, but they try to protect their abusers from being punished for all of the things that they have done. The situation is a no-brainer for the outsiders who are looking in. But it isn’t so clear to the two people who are in the toxic relationships to see why they keep feeling overwhelming connectedness towards a partner who treats them like pond scum at least part of the time.
There is a good reason for this strange relationship between an abuser and an abused victim, and this ebook will seek to explain it in layman’s terms. The concept that these relationships are eventually based on is something called Trauma Bonding. It binds the person doing the abusing with the person that is receiving the abuse in a deeply entrenched manner. Neither of them can seem to break the bonds of this toxic relationship and move on with their lives.
Trauma bonding occurs when an abuser uses intense fear, intimidation, manipulation, overly romantic gestures, mind-control and crazy-making tactics in order to entrap the other person in the relationship. The more confused and disoriented the victim becomes, the more control and pressure is exerted by the abusive party...

The other was all but forgotten. Dick Hickock and Perry Smith confessed to the first: the November 15, 1959 murder of a family of four in Holcomb, Kansas. Despite remarkable coincidences between the two crimes, they denied committing the second: the December 19 murder of a family of four in Osprey, Florida. Over half a century later, a determined Florida detective undertakes exceptional efforts to try to bring closure to the long-cold case.

The Mercereau House Murders: Two Tales of True Crime

On December 2, 2007, a quiet home in a quiet neighbourhood in Staten Island became immortalized as ‘the Mercereau house’ when it became a crime scene.A 38-year-old fire marshal widely recognized as a “rising star” in the New York Fire Department, Doug Mercereau, was curled up in the fetal position, dressed in his pajamas – shot to death. As an arson investigator, Doug carried a department handgun on the job, and his pistol was discovered next to the body. While the nearby service pistol initially suggested the death was a suicide, the autopsy revealed three gunshot wounds in the victim’s head.

Killer Housewives: A collection of True Crime

by Cynthia Elias

An anthology of True Crime tales involving some of the most murderous housewives in American history.KIM HRICKO Kim Hricko was getting ready to kill her husband the night they attended a Valentine’s Murder Mystery Party. Kim was a woman who was intelligent and determined, the irony of the play's theme was not lost on her. It was destiny calling. She watched with rapt attention as the actors went through the motions. A wedding bride took out a blue vial and poured the “poisonous” contents into her groom’s champagne glass. She has the right idea, Kim thought. Looking over at her husband Steve, she imagined him in the place of the actor on stage, choking to death. Could it be that easy?STACEY CASTORStacey Ruth Castor may have been one of the most sociopathic female serial killers in modern times. She poisoned her first husband Michael Wallace with anti-freeze after he becomes an inconvenience to her and did the same to her second husband David Castor years later. When she caught wind that the police were onto her methods, she poisoned her own daughter and wrote 'confession' letter on her behalf. She tried to pin the crimes on her daughter. Dubbed the Black Widow by the national media, recent findings have opened up the possibility that Stacey killed her own father as well. Cool, calm and collected, Stacey maintained her innocence throughout the court proceedings, adamantly pointing the finger of blame at her own daughter. But what possessed her to kill not only her husbands but her own flesh and blood? This is her story.JUDY BUENOANOJudy Buenoano loved men. Problem was, she loved killing them more. In 1971, she murdered her husband James and nine years later she would kill her own son, Michael. In 1983, she would attempt but fail to kill her boyfriend, John Gentry. She is also believed to have been responsible for the death of Bobby Joe Morris (another boyfriend) in 1978. She was never convicted of the Morris crime, however, as by the time the authorities had connected the dots she was sentenced to death for the murder of her first husband. But the suspicions didn't stop with the Morris death. Buenoano is also suspected of killing a man in 1974 and in 1980, another boyfriend would die under suspicious circumstances. Buenoano would become the first woman executed in Florida since 1848 and only the third woman executed since capital punishment had been reinstated in 1976. She would be sent to the electric chair in 1998. Her last words were that she wanted to be remembered as a “good mother.” Instead, she would go down as one of the most sadistic female serial killers in American history. SHEILA DAVALOOSheila Davalloo is truly one of the most demented individuals of the past twenty years. Several serious crimes are still being added to her gruesome resume. She portrayed the persona of a pleasant, happy person. She hid dark secrets, however, as to who she really was. The main victim was simply caught in a position that she could never escape from. To understand the vicious crime that Sheila Davalloo committed, it is important to understand the background of who she was. The totality of this murder is one that is still being uncovered. The lasting effects on an entire group of people has truly been catastrophic. DONNA YAKLICHIn December 1985, a narcotics detective was shot and killed in the driveway of his farm in Pueblo, Colorado, where he lived with his five children and his wife, Donna Yaklich. Initially, authorities suspected Dennis’ death was linked to his work in law enforcement, but a tip led them to two teenage shooters – and eventually, back to Dennis’ wife, Donna.
