Meeting the Middle East: Travels in Arabia

by Jason Smart

Meeting the Middle East is a lighthearted travelogue through twelve countries of Arabia. Starting in the Gulf State of Qatar, Jason Smart sets out on his whirlwind tour. From the futuristic skylines of Doha and Dubai to the ancient temples of Petra and Byblos, he visits some of the greatest cities this often-misunderstood part of the world has to offer.

Among his adventures, he swims in the Dead Sea, takes a transit through Saudi Arabia, sees the bullet holes of Beirut and almost succumbs to heat exhaustion in Bahrain. Find out how a Land Cruiser rams him off the road in Qatar, and why, in Kuwait, he almost gets into a fight with a large man wearing a white robe. As his journey continues, he takes a day trip to Israel, has a memorable encounter with a Turkish barber in Istanbul and experiences the warmth of the Kurdish people in Iraq. His journey ends in Ajman, the smallest of the United Arab Emirates, where he gets to see some of the more unsavoury sights of the Middle East.

Meeting the Middle East is Jason Smart’s ninth travel book.

I Died But I Got Better, By The Man Who Fell To Earth: How A Dozen Brushes With Death Transformed My Life

by Lance Von Prum

My life has been more interesting than most. I was a Pilot by 17, skydived more than 60 jumps, flew helicopters out of a secret base in Thailand, lived in Iran, flew a Mini Cooper and built a flying car. Yes, I built a flying car, well, sort of. I've nearly been killed, should have died, almost died or escaped death at least a dozen times. When I've told these stories to my friends, they all say, "You should write a book." So I did. This is my story. All of it is true, and the book is filled with color photos that I took, to back up my claims. The six months I lived in Iran, stationed there while in the US Army, would make a great movie alone, and I was only nearly killed there once! I write in a humorous style that will keep you laughing while sitting on the edge of your seat! I promise, you will be well entertained. I'll warn you to be careful drinking while reading. My humor often hinges on the last word or two of a sentence, and you may end up blowing your drink out your nose. Alcohol and carbonated beverages really burn, so be careful. You have been warned! Now, I dare you to take the challenge.I try to paint vivid mental images that really put the reader into the story, to feel the emotion, be a part of the action and feel the adrenaline rush. Imagine skydiving and not being able to find your ripcord, or driving off a one hundred foot cliff with no airbag, or being stopped and questioned threateningly by a Bedouin camel train in the middle of the desert, 200 miles from the nearest small village with no electricity or telephone. How about crashing a helicopter in the Vietnamese jungle, or having the engine quit while flying an airplane over downtown LA, with no place to land except the side of a building? It wasn't funny at the time, but in hindsight, I find humor in it all.I sincerely want to entertain you. I want to make you laugh and continue reading to find out what will happen next. I have a dozen other books on Amazon/Kindle, both fiction and non-fiction. You can learn more about me and my complex lifestyle by going to my personal website at www.vonprum.com. You can also contact me through this site if you have any questions or comments. So, if you do purchase the book and enjoy it, I invite you to leave a comment. Your feedback helps me be a better writer. My goal is to leave you, the reader, satisfied. That said, I hope you enjoy, and be careful when you take a sip of that drink.
