Self-Publishing Tools of Trade: Online Key Resources Authors Must Know

by Lama Jabr

There has been a surge in the self-publishing of books in the past few years. The advent of Kindle, Kobo and Barnes and Noble, to name by three of the digital marketplaces, has meant that just about anyone can write and publish a book which they can then upload and sell. And with other new ideas, like print on demand, you can see your book in a physical format without having to spend a fortune on it.

Proofreading, editing, designing a cover and not to mention promoting and advertising your work, are all essential elements. The sheer volume of work involved, once the budding author has researched it, can lead to a meltdown and an abandonment of the project.

Now, this new book by Lama Jabr - The Self-Publishing Tools of the Trade Every Author Must Know – sets out to help you navigate the treacherous route to making your self-published book a success.
Including chapters on;

• Researching Your Book
• Writing Your Book
• Formatting Your Book
• Publishing and Distribution
• Author Branding and eBook Marketing

The Self-Publishing Tools of the Trade Every Author Must Know is the new ‘must read’ for anyone who is interested in self-publishing their own work and seeing it come to life. Whether digital or hard copy, your work will look better than you could ever have hoped for, with the help of this great accompaniment.

The Elements of Fiction: Plots and Scenes That Always Work

by Philip Wik

I wrote The Elements of Fiction to guide and improve my own writing of fiction. Anyone can pick up the nuts and bolts of writing without much effort. But mastering the art and architecture of writing is more difficult. In today’s publishing environment where a flood of e-books would eclipse the literature of Mark Twain and Dickens and hasten Hemingway’s drinking and suicide, it helps to define success strictly in personal rather than mercenary terms. We’re living in the golden age of publishing where anyone can publish anything they write. With these opportunities comes the challenge of competing with an ever increasing larger army of author/publishers. We have different reasons for writing. For me and for most people, writing fiction is a hobby. It’s no way to make money. Its delight lies in letting me define and explore my feelings and express my ideas through the lives of fictional beings. Wally Wood, the cartoonist, was looking for ways to make his art more dynamic and interesting and his productivity more efficient. He drew “22 Panels that Always Work.” His idea was to reduce the multiple ways to draw a cartoon narrative into twenty-two panes of layouts and compositional techniques. Examples of these panes are head shots, eye shots, silhouettes, profiles, and contrasts. I want to do the same thing by reducing the infinity of narratives to a handful of elements using examples from my fiction. This book has these essays. Four Plots That Always WorkSeven Themes That Always WorkFive Plotting Elements That Always WorkCreativity PromptsCadenceTensionPixar’s 22 Rules for Storytelling The Elements of Fiction also has a lengthy section with examples of writing from my own fiction.

The Ultimate Horror Thesaurus: Also includes horror writing prompts, victim and killer character designs and descriptions of deadly terrain

by Peter Hughes

This comprehensive volume contains not only the words to illustrate the sights, smells and sounds of carnage on an epic scale, but offers descriptions of monsters (both inside and out) in great detail.This book contains:Ready-made brainstorming outlines including research, wordlists, ideas and hundreds of scenarios, covering everything from vicious swarms of bugs to necrotic zombies. Discover why killers murder and understand the twisted logic of a person who snaps when ‘’triggered’’ over first world problems.The victim’s defence toolkit includes a list of improvised weapons and the actions to describe how they hack, stab and batter their way to freedom. Furthermore, an exhaustive outline of dangerous lands is covered to aid in describing jungles, haunted houses, destroyed cities and the terrain of alien planets.Never again will you find yourself at a loss for words to illustrate the symptoms of a deadly pandemic or a rotting ghoul’s appearance and smell! A critical eye also gets cast over the many types of lone wolves and war-torn veterans who live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With so much to choose from you can create characters who assist the human communities they encounter or look out for themselves. This book stuffed full of scenarios and character traits for writers and is an excellent resource for those interested in creating unique situations in role-playing games. This must-have book ignites the flames of imagination and will help anyone stuck behind a wall of writer’s block smash through and get back to writing!
