Meeting of Two Seas: Where the heart leads the mind

by Saeed Malik

“Eye-opening in terms of the parity between the Abrahamic faiths, this fine model of scriptural analysis merits study by mystics of any faith.” Kirkus Reviews

This book is a follow-up to A perspective on the Signs of Al-Quran: Through the Prism of the Heart. Here the heart leads the mind on a journey into the eighteenth chapter of the Holy Quran. This chapter, known as Surah Kahf, has captivated seekers across the ages for its living spiritual appeal.
Meeting of two Seas is about a journey which Moses undertakes with Khidr. Though this journey is short, it continues to open doors to others, through our awakening to the meetings of many sets of two seas around us: The meeting of the manifested real and the hidden Real; the meeting of the temporal and the eternal; the meeting of the empirical with the spiritual; and the meeting of physical causes with the Spiritual Cause. Our consciousness too stands at the nexus of the seas of our very own inner and outer selves. When the heart and the mind come to a meld—the coming together of taddabur and taffakur—there is no turning back and no end to the joyous journey toward the shores and sea of the Arabic Quran. The i’jaz of the Quran is its unfathomable ability to lead us to a scent of the REAL and toward a sense of belonging to IT.

Preserving a Sunnah - 100 Short Authentic Hadith

by Fisabilillah Organization Authenticate Ulama's Organization

Sunnah means way or practice. In Islamic terminology, it refers to any act performed, verbally encouraged, or sanctioned by the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) by being performed in his presence or knowledge and not being disapproved of. This is also known as Hadith.

The wisdom of the Prophet (PBUH) since the dawn of his mission, served to inspire, guide, enlighten, and heal millions through the journey of life.

The book in your hands is a compilation of a hundred Ahadith (plural of Hadith), of mostly the second type of Sunnah, words of advice and teachings related to man and his relationship with his Maker, fellow human beings, and himself, i.e. something which can be implicated in day to day life.

The main purpose of this compilation is that the reader is able to memorize and practice the Ahadith. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,

“He who learns forty Ahadith with regards to my Ummah,
in relationship to religious injunctions,
Allah will raise him as a Faqih (Jurist),
and I will be an intercessor and a witness for him
on the Day of Judgment.” al Bayhaqi in Shua`bul Eman

The Islamic Guide to Happiness: Spiritual Reflections on Depression

by Idris Salik

What does the Islamic tradition say about depression? In many Muslim societies depression is viewed as taboo. One often hears in the refrain that "to despair is to sin" or that one should simply "put one's trust in Allah" in spite of the pain. In this book Idris Salik approaches the topic of depression with compassion and understanding while presenting us with practical advice grounded in an Islamic perspective. Salik explores the nature of depression through the perspective of Islamic history, theology and spirituality. He also draws on the ideas of the Chilean thinker Artur Manfred Max Neef and his ideas around the fundamental human needs arguing that these are universals which Islam promotes. In addition to this, Salik draws on his own battle with the "Black Dog" as well as providing countless anonymous anecdotes collected from family and friends who also suffer from the disease of melancholia. What emerges is a reflective book with spiritual insights and practical advice rooted in the Islamic tradition.

Importance of Maintaining Family Ties in Islam

by Sheikhul Hadith Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Kandehlawi (RA)

Introduction

This booklet is part of the book Fazaail-e-Sadaqaat, written by Hadhrat Sheikhul Hadith, Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (RA). In the introduction Hadhrat writes, “Special emphasis has been laid in the Holy Qur'an and the Ahaadith on maintaining good family ties. Rasulullah j has said that, the reward for Sadaqah given to one’s own family is doubled.

When Ummul Mu’mineen Hadhrat Maimunah (RA) set free a slave-girl, Rasulullah [PBUH] told her that it would have been better if she had given her away to her own uncle. Hence, if there is no other important religious duty, it is better to give Sadaqah to a relative rather than to anyone else. However, in meeting a religious need for the cause of Allah, the reward is multiplied seven hundred times. Numerous encouraging rewards are promised in the Holy Qur'an and Ahaadith for the maintaining of family ties, while punishments are indicated for breaking relationships.

If all of these were to be covered, the book would become too voluminous. Therefore, only a few Aayaat about the virtues and punishments have been selected and thereafter a few Ahaadith have been discussed.”

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala, The Supreme Master of all the worlds. Countless Durood and Salaam be upon our beloved Nabi, Sayyidina Muhammad( PBUH ).

Ziyarah & Salam: Visit to Madinah Munawwarah & 40 Salwat on our beloved Nabi Sayyidina Muhammad( PBUH ) (Hajj & Umrah: Journey of Life Time - A Complete Guide for Hajj & Umrah Book 1)

by Fisabilillah Organization Authenticate Ulama's Organization

ZIYARAH

Ziyarah literally means to visit. In the light of the Shariah it means to travel to Madinah to offer salutations and pay tribute to the Prophet [PBUH] and his Masjid.

There is no Miqat or Ihram for Madinah, although this does not take away from its sanctity, as again one has more reason to stay away from sins. (This again does not justify sinning elsewhere.)

Access to staying in Madinah is available all the time according to Shariah. Also no maximum/minimum time limit exists. However one should try to stay in Madinah for at least 8 days, so as to allow the performing of 40 Salah with Jamaah.

“Whoever offers 40 Salah in my Masjid, not missing even one Salah, for him is written (assured) freedom from the fire, delivery from punishment, and freedom from hypocrisy.” Ahmad

SALAWAT

The salawat provided in this book have been thoroughly researched, to ensure that they are as accurately represented as possible.

We have referred to the original sources of Ahadith when compiling this book to ensure that no accidental misrepresentations are included.

In praise of his accomplishments and his perfected character, Allah Taala states;

Allah and His angels send Blessings on the Prophet (Muhammad [PBUH]) O you who believe! Invoke blessings upon him too and send abundant greetings of peace. al Azhab 56

Allah Taala has not only permitted the sending of salutations upon the Prophet [PBUH], but has ordained reward in lieu of it. The most significant of which are; for it is an expression of love for the beloved of Allah. Whoever prays once for blessings upon Muhammad is blessed himself ten times over by the One who sent him. Muslim

This is Allah’s Taala sheer blessing upon us that we should be rewarded for thanking Allah’s Messenger [PBUH] for what he has done for us. As love for the Messenger is a part of Iman, so should we make Salawat upon him a part of our daily routine.

The Quran is considered by Muslims to be the direct Word of God. No other book today influences world events as the Quran does. We should all know what it contains. We should all know what it teaches. This small book provides the most essential Quran chapters, translated into modern English. What is Islam? What do Muslims believe? Is Islam a religion of peace? Is Islam a religion of terror? These Quran passages answer your questions, settle the debates, and shed light into the future. The translation is clear, easy to read, and very faithful to the Arabic text. The teachings of the Quran are now within easy reach.[The Heifer 62]Those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Christians, and the Sabeans-any who believe in God and the Last Day, and act righteously-will have their reward with their Lord; they have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.[Monotheism 1-4]In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.1. The Four Light - Suarh al-Mulk Surah as-Sajdah Surah ar-Rahman Surah al-Waqi'ah: Arabic and English Language with English Translation

by Fisabilillah Organization Authenticate Ulama's Organization

The Qur’an should be recited daily so that in short spaces of time entire recitations are completed. This is something that many are punctual with in Ramadan, however, it is not something that is exclusive to that month. It’s blessings transcend to every instance in our lives. To facilitate this, a table has been included at the end of this book which we can use to encourage and remind ourselves of this manner of pleasing Allah Ta’ala. Either we can tick a day when we reach a specific goal of verses/pages each day, or we can insert a number (to represent verses/pages) if our daily timetables are unpredictable or inconstant. In this manner we can still try to read a fixed number of pages per dayOne should try to aim for a Juz (Parah) a day. If one is trying to create a habit and this is too much, start smaller, e.g. a few pages. With the gradual build up of speed and comfort in reading, one will be able to set this or even higher goals. One should also try and read the Qur’an with a reputable translation at hand so one can reflect upon the meaning of what is recited. This is why the translation has also been included in this publication (and also our other Publications). With this addition we hope that our recitation of the Qur’an will rise above a repetition of unknown words, and progress to giving audience to the Words of Allah Ta’ala, and taking the commands and advices of Allah Ta’ala to heart. The chapters of the Qur’an presented in this book are those which should be recited daily. If one is not able to recite so much comfortably, then one should start with one or even part of one of these Surahs daily. The specific benefits for reciting each of these chapters are mentioned under their separate headings.

The Story of Prophet Adam In Islam

by Muhammad Vandestra

Prophet Adam is believed to have been the first human being and (Prophet) on Earth, in Islam. Adam's role as the father of the human race is looked upon by Muslims with reverence. Muslims also refer to his wife, Hawa (Eve), as the "mother of mankind". Muslims see Prophet Adam as the first Muslim, as the Qur'an states that all the Prophets preached the same faith of Islam (Submission to One God). The Qur'an and hadith give the same account of the creation of Adam and Eve. Synthesizing the Qur'an with Sunni hadith can produce the following account. According to the Qur'an, when Allah (God) informed the angels that he was going to put a successor on Earth, they questioned whether the human would cause blood shed and damage, but he told them that he knew what they did not. He created Adam from clay and breathed life into him. Hadith add that he was named Adam after the clay he was made out of, or the skin (adim) of the earth. Returning to the Qur'an, when God asked all the angels to prostrate before Adam, they all obeyed, except Iblis (Lucifer). He said, "I am made from fire, when Adam is from clay. I am better than him. I am not going to prostrate before him."Sunni hadith say that while Adam was sleeping, God took a rib from him and from it he created Eve (Hawa); however, while the creation of Adam and Eve is referred to in the Qur'an, the exact method of creation is not specified. The Qur'an then says that God commanded that Adam and Eve not eat from one tree in the garden of Eden, but Iblis (Lucifer) was able to convince them to taste it. They then began to cover themselves because they now knew that they were naked. For this, God banished Adam and Eve to earth; non-canonical Sunni hadith say that fruits were turned to thorns and pregnancy became dangerous. Non-canonical Sunni hadith also say that Adam and Eve were cast down far apart, so that they had to search for each other and eventually met each other at Mount Arafat. In Islamic theology, it is not believed that Adam's sin is carried by all of his children. Hadith say that once Prophet Adam was on earth, God taught him how to plant seeds and bake bread. This was to become the way of all of Adam's children, Prophet Adam proceeded to live for about 1000 years.

Buddhist and Islamic Orders in Southern Asia: Comparative Perspectives

by R. Michael Feener

Over the last few decades historians and other scholars have succeeded in identifying diverse patterns of connection linking religious communities across Asia and beyond. Yet despite the fruits of this specialist research, scholars in the subfields of Islamic and Buddhist studies have rarely engaged with each other to share investigative approaches and methods of interpretation. This volume was conceived to open up new spaces of creative interaction between scholars in both fields that will increase our understanding of the circulation and localization of religious texts, institutional models, ritual practices, and literary specialists. The book’s approach is to scrutinize one major dimension of the history of religion in Southern Asia: religious orders. “Orders” (here referring to Sufi ṭarīqas and Buddhist monastic and other ritual lineages) established means by which far-flung local communities could come to be recognized and engaged as part of a broader world of co-religionists, while presenting their particular religious traditions and their human representatives as attractive and authoritative to potential new communities of devotees. Contributors to the volume direct their attention toward analogous developments mutually illuminating for both fields of study. Some explain how certain orders took shape in Southern Asia over the course of the nineteenth century, contextualizing these institutional developments in relation to local and transregional political formations, shifting literary and ritual preferences, and trade connections. Others show how the circulation of people, ideas, texts, objects, and practices across Southern Asia, a region in which both Buddhism and Islam have a long and substantial presence, brought diverse currents of internal reform and notions of ritual and lineage purity to the region. All chapters draw readers’ attention to the fact that networked persons were not always strongly institutionalized and often moved through Southern Asia and developed local bases without the oversight of complex corporate organizations.Buddhist and Islamic Orders in Southern Asia brings cutting-edge research to bear on conversations about how “orders” have functioned within these two traditions to expand and sustain transregional religious networks. It will help to develop a better understanding of the complex roles played by religious networks in the history of Southern Asia.

The Making of Islamic Heritage: Muslim Pasts and Heritage Presents (Heritage Studies in the Muslim World)

by Trinidad Rico

This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. Offering key insights into critical debates on the construction, management and destruction of heritage in Muslim contexts, this volume considers how Islamic heritages are constructed through texts and practices which award heritage value. It examines how the monolithic representation of Islamic heritage (as a singular construct) can be enriched by the true diversity of Islamic heritages and how endangerment and vulnerability in this type of heritage construct can be re-conceptualized. Assessing these questions through an interdisciplinary lens including heritage studies, anthropology, history, conservation, religious studies and archaeology, this pivot covers global and local examples including heritage case studies from Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Jordan, and Pakistan.
