The French Love Pastry and Her Tale in the Sand: A Dip into the Byblos Foretold Novaplex

by M.E. Meegs

Once upon a time, on the north coast of France, a callipygian chambermaid set her sights on a rich American with a fetish. It’s the spring of 1903, and the coy Nicole—intoxicated by a combination of youthful infatuation and ageless avarice—puts all her most promising parts to work. But it’s not by her comely tail she’ll win this learned lad’s heart, for his obsession runs deeper—or, at least, further down….

Reminiscent of the tales comprising The Decameron, this singular story recounts yet another skirmish in the age-old battle of the sexes, and then betters Boccaccio by adding a pair of instructive morals, à la: If you lead him by the nose, be sure to check the porridge for parts.

One Good Turn: and other stories

by Angelo Marcos

They say that one good turn deserves another, but what about the opposite kind?

From the author of psychological thrillers The Artist and Sleep No More, One Good Turn is an electrifying collection of three separate but interlinked short stories, all set in London on the same fateful night.

You’ve Got a Friend
Mark is on nightshift duty on the You’ve Got a Friend Helpline. Unfortunately for the callers, his idea of help is very different to theirs.

One Good Turn
Two young tourists in London find themselves on the last train out of the city, and begin to wonder if they’ll ever get to their hotel…

Fare Game
An illegal cab driver picks up an old, confused man and offers him a lift home. It’ll be a journey they both may regret.

“In any given city, lives will intersect. In both good ways and bad.”

----------

(Very) Quick Author Q and A

What inspired you to write this story?
I’ve always loved reading psychological thriller novels, as well as behavioural science and criminal psychology books.(You might be able to guess that I’ve always had an interest in the darker side of human nature...)After writing my second novel I had loads of ideas that weren’t quite right for full-length novels, but which I thought would work well together as a short story mystery collection. I decided it would be interesting to write three linked short stories all set in the city of London and featuring people with malicious intentions.

Who will enjoy this book?
Anybody that likes forensic psychology fiction, suspenseful books, and sinister tales.

Oh, and anybody with psychotic tendencies who has ever worked on a helpline…

Her Letter

by Jacie Middlemann

Just days before Christmas, after returning from an out of town trip Luke Sutherlin found the last thing he would have ever expected. Her letter.
Luke knew he would only ever have to read it once. Each word was now seared into his memory. He knew too it wasn’t something she had done easily. Her every written word tells him that.
He knows he’d made some bad choices and even worse decisions. Then he hadn’t paid attention when she saw what he didn’t. Or didn’t want to. Those things had changed him. He had never meant to take anything for granted. But he had. Worse, he was slowly becoming someone he didn’t recognize. He didn’t see it…but his wife had.
It doesn’t take him long to realize how empty the house is without her. Little things like her footsteps on the stairs, the way she hummed when she made dinner, all those things suddenly missing forced him to look beyond only himself. There was so much he hadn’t seen before. But he does now.
As Christmas draws closer, Luke knows one thing is clearer to him than it has ever been before. Nothing is more important than his wife. His family. With her letter emblazoned in his memory he sets out to find the man he’d once been…the one his wife wanted back.
