Envisaging an Ideal Society:: Lelonia Rises out of Chaos

by Tom Gnagey

This chronicle portrays a timeless allegory. In this telling, the events transpire in the tiny, sovereign, country of Lelonia, which has anguished in turmoil for decades. The call goes out for citizens to submit plans to rebirth the country. A pair of unconventional teenagers takes up the challenge; Marcus – brilliant, insightful, optimistic – and his life long closest friend, Thomas – smarter than average, well read, pessimistic. Being young, naïve, and fully inexperienced in the ways of politics, they thereby posses sufficient qualifications for creating a fresh, practical, approach to government.
They hike their country listening and observing to determine the problems and discover the positive possibilities. They experience real dangers in a lawless land, the anguish and terror of the homeless, hungry, children, and witness the atrocities of the Despicables – amoral, roaming bands of bandits. They sense the indomitable spirit of Lelonia, poised to surface and soar again under a hope-filled, charismatic, leader.
They create a socio-governmental system based in positive social values, which they call Mutual Facilitation. Their plan is selected. Marcus becomes the new Leader.
The story follows these characters through the ups and downs of the next forty years.
Life became Eden-like in Lelonia, until hostile forces gather.

A horrific discovery of seventy-two bus passengers, kidnapped from the main highways and murdered in cold blood, their bodies scattered on a deserted farm. The inhuman act shocked the nation, but this was only the beginning, as the following months saw the rise of one of the most powerful and brutal drug cartels in Mexico. With impunity, they swept through the region, while the authorities failed to act. Felipe ‘Flip’ Hernandez is a handyman who lives with his two young sons in the eastern barrio of San Fernando. Haunted by the disappearance of his wife and wracked with guilt, he is forced to navigate his way through the corruption and violence that blighted his homeland, in the hope of discovering the truth. The story moves through the killing fields and cartel occupied barrios of Tamaulipas, intertwined with children who bear witness to the bloodshed of Mexico’s drug war, a mother who undertakes a quest for justice when tragedy strikes. The teenagers who seek indoctrination into the drug cartels, a young El Salvadorian survivor, and a psychotic and bloodthirsty child soldier of the Los Zetas. The story moves toward a conclusion that is apocalyptic and even more shocking than the mass murder that came before it. The Mercian Brexit

by M J Porter

England – 957Two brothers. One kingdom.Unease runs deep within the newly formed England, the young figurehead of the Wessex kingdom, King Eadwig, doing all he can to disadvantage the ancient kingdoms of Mercia, East Anglia and Northumbria, (the kingdoms north of the Thames) so that Wessex and Kent can flourish, at the expense of the newer additions to the core kingdoms of ancient England. But the nobility of Mercia, East Anglia and Northumbria, only recently united with Wessex, have no qualms about separating their kingdom once more, and placing another on the throne, who has their best interests at heart. Edgar, Eadwig’s brother, has been raised in the heartlands of the Northern Territories, by a man so powerful he’s earned the nickname of ‘Half-King’, and Edgar has that special talent that his own brother has failed to grasp; he’s beloved of the people. As the popular movement, headed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Oda and Athelstan Half-King proclaims Edgar, King of Mercia and King North of the River Thames, there’s nothing that King Eadwig, can do, except decry the grabbing hands of the nobility of Wessex, the men and women who’ve counseled him so badly, and accept the division. But the divided kingdom of England stands open to attack once more, the Scots to the North, led by King Ildulb, the diverse Welsh kingdoms to the West, where the sons of Hywel Dda vie for power, and of course, the Viking raiders to the east, never quiet and now raiding the Scots kingdom under the command of King Hakon of Norway. Can a fragmented England survive?(This can also be read as a prequel to The First Queen of England)

GENDER WARS [Political fiction, women in politics]: War on Women

by D.E. DAUM

IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN INSPIRING POLITICAL NOVEL TO READ FOR INDEPENDENT & PROGRESSIVE READERS, DURING THIS POLITICAL SEASON, THIS IS IT!GENDER WARS is a story, about a lady politician, who, rejected by her party starts a new women's party, with her friends and a popular TV host and winds up running for President. Gender Wars is satirical, funny, informative and inspiring, a must read for forward leaning women and men.EXCERPTMaybe I made a mistake. Rose Maddock is, after all, a Republican ball-buster. If social security is the third rail of politics, Rose Maddock is the Republican third rail of talk TV. But, what choice do I have? I had to counter what those SAFE bitches said on Winfred Opry's show.Shivers ran down his spine as Rose introduced him, "Mr. Crowe Magnon, welcome." He froze. Her voice sounded somewhat cheerful. Is she mocking me? He forced his right foot, then his left forward. Remember to smile."Well, I'm glad you could join us. It's not every day we get favored with a Republican guest, of your stature."Answer her you fool. "Ah yes, I'm looking forward to it. You get tired of the scripted questions at Wolf News."Rose gazed at him and smiled. "Well, we're glad to have you with us. Tell me, was there anything I said that you would like to correct or comment on?"Damn, I didn't pay attention. She did say war on women. "Only that this so-called war on women is a fabrication." Crowe paused to scratch his suddenly itchy nose."Rose posed a gotcha grin. "Really, there's no war on women?" "Let me state categorically, there is no Republican war on women." "Ow!" He reached for his nose and squeezed it—hard. Rose looked on, confused, but sympathetic. "Are you all right?"Holding his nose, he replied in a chipmunk voice, "I think so. A pain shoot through my nose. I'm sorry." "That's okay. As long as you're okay."Then it came to him. What Karol Rogue said to him yesterday. Just deny 'the war on women' until your nose begins to grow. "Does my nose look the same?""What do you mean?""I don't know. Is it red, did it, maybe get any bigger, longer?""Longer? Not that I can tell. Do you feel like continuing?" Crowe nodded. "Certainly.""Okay, let's move on. You claim there’s no war on women.""That's right." Crowe's nose tingled. Rose rolled her eyes. "Okay since there's no war on women, how do you explain the hostility toward equal pay for equal work by republicans?""Must be coincidence."Crowe could tell Rose didn't buy it. "Do you know what many law enforcement officials say?""Not really.""They say there is no such thing as coincidence.""I can't help it. That's the only explanation.""Fair enough. Is it a coincidence that most Republican legislators want to defund Planned Parenthood?"Crowe ran fingers through his shaggy mane. "Probably.""Okay. What about the fact that the House passed a bill aimed at Women's contraception, which would make everyone's healthcare subject to the whim of their employers."Crowe gritted his teeth when he reflexively shrugged a third time. "It's the only explanation." Rose leaned forward. "And is it a coincidence when these legislators write these bills? Something, maybe a republican male imp who hates women, takes over their mind and makes them write and write? And, when they finish, voila, they have a bill requiring a trans-vaginal ultrasound for any woman who needs an abortion. And, this miraculously not only happens in Texas, but Virginia, N Carolina even Pennsylvania. "Mr. Magnon, do you know there’s been hundreds of anti-abortion bills proposed or passed in various states since the Republican landslide of 2010?"Crowe ran his hands through his hair, giving him time to think. This is what I was afraid of This is why they say Rose Maddock is the Big No, No! A few seconds passed as he contemplated his response. "Mr. Magnon?""Yes, I heard you.""Theres a Republican war on women, isn't there? Be truthful.""No!" His nose

Four Seats: Martial Law (Four Seats, Part Two of Six)

by Aaron Cooley

“Has the makings of a classic, will surely be on the small screen at some point, and I can’t wait to watch it when it gets there.”
- Jeremy Garelick, Writer-Director of THE WEDDING RINGER

Part Two of the serial conspiracy thriller that will shake America to its core.

One month has passed since the bombing of the Supreme Court that claimed the lives of 124 people, including four of the Justices.

On the hunt for the whereabouts of the fiancée he had thought killed in the blasts, Supreme Court Police officer Jason Lancaster has arrived in Detroit, a lawless wasteland policed by the grunts of a military contractor called Allied Armament Security Consultants. The answers Jason seeks may only be obtainable by somehow getting inside a closed-down hospital guarded by the mercenaries day and night.

Meanwhile, back in Washington, the confirmation hearing of conservative Notre Dame law professor Cecilia Koh has gotten underway. How will former First Lady Rosemarie Irving handle the revelation that Professor Koh is being extorted by one of her students, threatening to reveal to the media that the Professor recently paid for her daughter’s abortion?

Part legal potboiler, part HOUSE OF CARDS dealmaking drama, part 24-esque espionage cliffhanger, FOUR SEATS is an enthralling new entry to the conspiracy thriller tradition.

OTHER REVIEWS:
“Cooley delivers again. A riveting political thriller that is somehow educational and page-turning at the same time. I didn’t know I could care this much about the appointment of judges, but Cooley took me there.”
- Dave Callaham, Screenwriter of GODZILLA and THE EXPENDABLES

“With FOUR SEATS, Aaron Cooley has softly, slyly and deservedly taken his seat beside Parker, Child, DeMille and Grisham and in the process has introduced us to a protagonist with just enough flaw to be honorably relatable and just enough hero to be vastly readable.”
– Patrick MacManus, Writer & Co-Executive Producer,
Netflix’s MARCO POLO

“Cooley writes with knowledge and skill about a shadowy world few truly understand… at times richly emotional, hilarious, and challenging… bears the hard weight of both a political and personal mystery that demands we all ultimately consider where we are, and what comes next.”
- Eric Lodal, Creator/Executive Producer, TNT’s MURDER IN THE FIRST

“Mr. Cooley has crafted a smart, tension-filled thriller reminiscent of John Grisham and Tom Clancy that exudes authenticity and kept me glued to the page. I was thoroughly riveted and found FOUR SEATS nearly impossible to put down.”

Obama’s Drama (The Obamas Saga Book 1)

by James J.J. Thomas

This is a story about an American President who agreed for his wife and children to visit Africa as goodwill ambassadors. He thought he would use the occasion of this trip as the starting point to forge a better relationship with Africa. They left Washington in high spirits, looking as one would expect the first family to look.

At their first two stops, they were treated royally, as expected. At their third stop however, in Kenya, the land of the President’s father, something went awfully wrong. The incident not only brought the world leading financial markets to their knees, but it also brought industry and commerce worldwide to a standstill for days.

The incident caused the American economy to take a severe hammering.

Across the globe millions took to social media to deliver messages of hope; from offering prayers to making suggestions as to how best to approach the situation.

Never in the history of the literary world has a novel been written about a sitting or retired US President‘s wife and children pleading for help, leaving the President on wobbly legs like a bruised and battered boxer.
Did the President bow to various demands or did he survive the most traumatic drama that has ever confronted a US sitting President?

This is a fascinating, gripping, thrilling story that will have readers engrossed from beginning to the end.
