My Fair Assassin: Allies Of The Fae Realm Fated Mates Romance (Paranormal Misfits Book 1)

by C.J. Anaya

It's not everyday a teenage girl is singled out for assassination.

Crysta has come to accept the fact that she is freakishly different. Her shocking white hair, creepy powers, and weird eating habits have prevented her from fitting in with her various foster families. Now that she is fully emancipated and providing for herself, she hopes that life will settle down and become something halfway normal.

Her hopes are shattered when a dangerous man with lethal intent breaks into her apartment, but this enticing stranger isn't what he seems. Is he here to kill her or protect her from others who will?

My Fair Assassin is a romantic short story with elements of paranormal and urban fantasy woven in for an entertaining read. It also touches on social issues involving personal self-esteem and acceptance. Adults and teens alike will enjoy getting lost in the pages of Crysta's story as she finally comes to accept who she is...or rather what she is.

Excerpt:

His movements as he studied me and my dingy apartment were stiff and watchful. His expression was that of guarded
curiosity, and when my cat, Nala, made a small whining noise from my bedroom down the hall, his stance came to attention and his arm muscles went taut as he withdrew a small dagger from a sheath at his waist.

Honestly, where had this guy come from, and why weren’t we dating?

Oh, yeah. He was here to kill me.

“It’s just my cat,” I said, raising my hands in a placating gesture. “My roommate, Jami, is out of town for the weekend.”

“What?” He lowered his dagger and stared me down.

I didn’t feel threatened by his gaze. I almost felt drawn to it and wondered if he was as curious about me as I was about him.

Stupid! I am so stupid.

Any other recently emancipated seventeen-year-old would have run screaming around her apartment in an attempt to get her
worthless, noisy neighbors to call the cops, or at the very least, come to her aid.

Not me, apparently. Nope. I was content to stare at the gorgeous criminal before me with all thoughts of fight or flight escaping my slow-witted mental processes.

Extinction Of All Children (Book 1)

by L.J. Epps

A young adult, fantasy novel about a teenager who is the last eighteen-year-old in her territory. There will never be another child; every baby born after her has been taken away. Everyone wonders why she survived.Emma Whisperer was born in 2080, in the small futuristic world of Craigluy. President Esther, in charge for the last twenty-two years, has divided their world into three territories, separated by classes—the rich, the working class, and the poor—because she believes the poor should not mingle with the others. And, the poor are no longer allowed to have children, since they do not have the means to take care of them. Any babies born, accidentally or willfully, are killed. Emma is the last eighteen-year-old in her territory; every baby born after her has died. Somehow, she survived this fate. During the president’s Monday night speech, she announces a party will be held to honor the last child in the territory, Emma Whisperer. Emma must read a speech, expressing how happy she is to be the last eighteen-year-old. Emma doesn’t like the rules; she doesn’t believe in them. So, she feels she must rebel against them. Her family doesn’t agree with her rebellion, since they are hiding a big secret. If this secret gets out, it will be disastrous, and deadly, for her family. During Emma’s journey, she meets—and becomes friends with—Eric. He is one of the guards for the president. She also befriends Samuel, another guard for the president, who is summoned to watch over her. As Emma meets new people, she doesn’t know who she can trust. Yet, she finds herself falling for a guy, something which has never happened before. After doing what she feels is right, Emma finds herself in imminent danger. In the end, she must make one gut-wrenching decision, a decision that may be disastrous for them all.“Fans of dystopian fantasy will devour this book. L. J. Epps writes a story that, while dealing with heavy subject matter, is still a light, enjoyable read. This dystopian fantasy novel ignites the imagination, and is a must read for fans of The Hunger Games and the Divergent Trilogy.”—Kristina Gemmell,Beta Reader

Mother of Wolves (Evalyce Worldshaper Book 1)

by J. Aislynn d'Merricksson

De Sikkari, a world full of magick and wonder and blended technology. Floating skycities, supported by lucavite, soar far above the continents and oceans. It is a world where creatures of myth and legend roam freely. A world fraught with an unknown danger, for the magick binding the Nagali Al'dhumarna in his confinement upon the Isle of Whispers has begun to fail. It is 2013, the Year of the Golden Hart, a year of awakening and change, especially for Kalla kyl’Solidor, a mage of Cryshal Kanlon. Kalla has gone to find a magister, the guardians who serve as protectors and energy sources for their magi. Kalla finds more than she bargained for when the skycity she is visiting comes under attack by fire wyvern, dragon-kin who normally shun humans and keep to themselves. In the aftermath of the battle Kalla and her magister find a wounded wyvern. Rather than allow the creature to be slaughtered, Kalla heals it, learning, in the process, that the wyvern had been drugged and set to attack. A fire-scrying reveals that it wasn’t an isolated event. All across De Sikkari, dragon-kin and other creatures had been enslaved and set against city and skycity alike. The scrying sets Kalla and her magister on a journey which will profoundly change them in ways they could never imagine.

Uncanny Valley

by C.A. Gray

Rebecca Cordeaux knows exactly what her future will hold: she will marry Andy, her crush of the last five years. Once Andy is ready to settle down, she’s sure he will discover that she is his soulmate. After several small parts on stage, Rebecca knows she can become a renowned actress. Her writing also shows promise as a future author. Robots perform most human jobs that can be automated, leaving many free to pursue their personal creative interests. But Rebecca's mother Karen fears the new world of robots, and insists her brilliant daughter join a university research team, studying the hazards of a complete robotic economy. Rebecca's father Quentin was obsessed with the subject to a degree that even her mother considered absurd, prior to his untimely death. So long as she can reserve enough of her time to pursue her true passions on the side, Rebecca half-heartedly agrees to join the research team, if only to please her widowed mother. There she joins a post-doc named Liam, whose conspiracy theories rival even those of her late father. Liam is convinced that world Republic leader William Halpert’s worldwide challenge for researchers to develop synthetic creativity will lead not to the promised utopia, in which every kind of human suffering has been eradicated, but rather to an apocalypse. Rebecca, whose best friend is her own companion bot Madeline, writes Liam off as a bot-hating conspiracy theorist, just like her father was… until she learns that her father’s death might not have been due to mere happenstance. With Liam’s help, Rebecca learns of an underground organization known as The Renegades, where Quentin Cordeaux was considered a legend. While Liam attempts to stop Halpert’s challenge if he can, Rebecca tries to unravel the mystery of what happened to her father. Did he and many of his contemporaries die for something they knew? Who is the mysterious informant who calls himself John Doe, and only seems to want to drive her out of harm’s way? And if Halpert’s challenge is answered, will it usher in a brave new chapter in humanity’s history… or were Quentin Cordeaux’s dire predictions right all along?
