King Faisal: A Life

by James Edmonds

Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, the third king of Saudi Arabia, was born in a mud house in a small desert village and died as one of the most powerful men on the planet. His reign marked the Kingdom's transition, in barely two generations, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Devout and cautious, Faisal brought gradual change to his nation without eroding its traditions and Islamic value system. Saudis recall his reign as a golden age - when an infrastructure was built, welfare services established and hardliners in the religious establishment were kept in check. American support for Israel led Faisal to institute the 1973 oil embargo, bringing an end to the era of cheap energy and dramatically transforming Saudi society. His death left a void, one which his successors have filled with an overdose of religion. Saudi Arabia and the world are still suffering the consequences.

by Hourly History

Henry VIII* * *Download for FREE on Kindle Unlimited + Free BONUS Inside!* * *Read On Your Computer, MAC, Smartphone, Kindle Reader, iPad, or Tablet.Since his death in the year 1547, King Henry VIII has been celebrated as a chivalrous pioneer and reviled as a brutal tyrant, but he has never been ignored. Henry was responsible for the separation of the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church, the ramifications of which reverberated through subsequent centuries of European history. Domestically, Henry revolutionized the English Constitution, elevating his own status to that of a God. Inside you will read about...✓ From Childhood to Coronation✓ Early Reign✓ The King’s Great Matter✓ The Rise and Fall of Anne Boleyn✓ Dissolution of the Monasteries✓ Anne of Cleves✓ The Execution of Katherine Howard✓ A Rough Wooing in Scotland and War with FranceHenry’s belief in his own divine right certainly played a part in his six marriages, his penchant for executing those who disagreed with him and his many disagreements with the Pope. Chauvinistic, chivalrous, tyrannical, visionary, it is possible that King Henry VIII was all of these things and yet however you view his place in British History, his reign was nothing short of momentous.

HOLLYWOOD ICONS VOLUME 2: Audrey Hepburn and Bette Davis - 2 Books in 1

by Katy Holborn

HOLLYWOOD ICONS VOLUME 2: Audrey Hepburn and Bette Davis - 2 Books in 1Featuring… *Audrey Hepburn*Bette Davis2 Great Books in 1!Audrey HepburnThese are just a few of the things that makes a star like Audrey Hepburn transcend the movies to icon-status. She wasn’t just beautiful; so many women, especially in her field, are beautiful. More than that, she became the symbol for an ideal of timeless relevance - that is, what it means to be a woman of style and substance. It was beyond beauty. It was a way of life and being.Bette DavisWhen great things are expected from a person, the commonly used phrase is something to the effect of – ‘One day, they will write songs about you.’ In the case of Bette Davis, she has had more than her fair share of tributes and it is of no surprise; few actors have her ability to captivate and inspire, her courage to challenge, and her willingness to repulse and terrify an audience in the name of her craft. Because here in Hollywood, even if she were in a town of giants, she was an unapologetic titan.

Marijuana, California Chronicles of a Teenage Pot Dealer

by Clayton Ulrich

This story is a historical recording of true events that took place in my life starting in 1976. I mainly wanted to let my kids know what it was like for me growing up in Southern California and my crazy teenage years. I started smoking marijuana at a very young age. My story is through the eyes of a 13-year-old kid coming to age. I had to go back 42 years and put myself back there. But all my life I have wanted to share my story. I never could though because I would have been ridiculed, lose my job, maybe even get arrested. Times are changing and it’s now a perfect time to share my story. You get both of me, my grownup self of today’s world and my inner teenage self from yesteryear. I was able to write my story only by chance. You see, I am a hard-working American who puts in the effort to support my family and the time to take care of my wife Lisa who has MS (multiple sclerosis). Lisa refuses to use marijuana because it is illegal, she has those high morals. No matter it might help her with the intense pain she suffers every day. Opioids no longer give her much pain relief. So, you see I have a purpose too with this book. Please take the words in this book too heart. Go back with me to those days and reflect your own personal experiences. My book is a mix of Cheech and Chong, The Wonder Years, That ‘70s Show, and a bit of The Big Bang Theory all mixed up. If you do smoke marijuana, then I would smoke some as you read my story and take in some of the fun times I had. It’s not all Happy Days, there was serious situations as well. If you enjoy this book and would like me going into it more with more stories please let me know in the reviews, share it, anything you can do. I would appreciate the opportunity to write an expanded edition. So, there you have it. It’s a short simple story that I hope you enjoy. Thank YouClay

Franklin D. Roosevelt: A Life From Beginning to End (Biographies of US Presidents Book 32)

by Hourly History

Franklin D. Roosevelt* * *Download for FREE on Kindle Unlimited + Free BONUS Inside!* * *Read On Your Computer, MAC, Smartphone, Kindle Reader, iPad, or Tablet. One of America’s most influential presidents was a man who could not walk. The polio that struck Franklin Delano Roosevelt when he was a future political star did not diminish him. Instead, against all expectations, it was the agent that forged his destiny. He came from an affluent family; a cousin, Theodore Roosevelt, had been president; another Roosevelt cousin, Eleanor, would become the wife who transformed the role of First Lady into her version of the bully pulpit. However, FDR’s path to politics was far different from the one that Theodore traveled. Inside you will read about...✓ The Roosevelt Household: Son, Mother, Wife✓ Politics and Infidelity✓ Roosevelt, the Paraplegic✓ Eleanor, FDR's Cousin and First Lady✓ The United States Enters War✓ The Death of the Longest Serving PresidentAnd much more! The pampered son of an elderly father and the strong-willed Sara Delano Roosevelt showed no particular acumen in his youth. FDR was not a scholar or an athlete of great renown. His romantic endeavors were awkward. What, then, created the dynamic leader who inspired a nation to believe in itself when it was reeling from the Great Depression and the shadow of war across the ocean? Perhaps it was adversity itself that transformed the golden boy into the tested president who vowed that America would not fall, that the economy would recover, that liberty would triumph over oppression. He had seen in his own life how, deprived of the use of his legs, he was nonetheless able to mobilize a nation by his energetic example. It’s true that Franklin Delano Roosevelt could not walk. But it was because of him that the United States of America was able, in the tumultuous years of the Great Depression and World War II, to remain standing when nations all around the world were falling.

Charlie Chaplin: A Life From Beginning to End (Biographies of Actors Book 3)

by Hourly History

Charlie Chaplin* * *Download for FREE on Kindle Unlimited + Free BONUS Inside!* * *Read On Your Computer, MAC, Smartphone, Kindle Reader, iPad, or Tablet.Charlie Chaplin is most famously known for his “tramp” character—the homeless hobo that can be seen hopping from trains and lining up in the soup kitchens of the Great Depression. At a time when the whole world was struggling from economic meltdown, Charlie Chaplin made “destitute” a term of endearment. We may laugh when we see Charlie Chaplin so broke that he has to boil his shoes and eat them, but during the worst parts of the economic collapse of the 1920s and 1930s, some people had to do just that. So, at the time, even though many would laugh at the crazy tramp’s antics, they could also relate and identify with them. And the fact that Charlie Chaplin’s tramp character could be completely broke with his pockets turned out, sitting in a gutter with the rain pouring down, yet still be happy, gave people quite a bit of encouragement. People thought that if the homeless, wandering tramp portrayed in Chaplin’s films could get through such rough times and be alright, maybe they could too. Inside you will read about...✓ From the Poorhouse to the Stage✓ Coming to America✓ Unhappily Married✓ The Silent Film Hush Money✓ He Doesn’t Talkie✓ Socialist Leanings✓ Exile from the United StatesAnd much more!As goofy as some of Chaplin’s slapstick comedic moments are in his films, it was the way he just kept trundling along, even in the face of great adversity, that empowered so many. It was this tantalizing glimpse of hope, more than anything else, that kept them coming back for more.

Nostradamus: A Life From Beginning to End

by Hourly History

Nostradamus* * *Download for FREE on Kindle Unlimited + Free BONUS Inside!* * *Read On Your Computer, MAC, Smartphone, Kindle Reader, iPad, or Tablet. It is difficult to think of many historical figures that have been able to build up such a cult following as Nostradamus. Indeed, he may have lived centuries ago, but his name is still thrown around in the world today whenever a disaster or global event occurs. From his work as a doctor fighting against the plague with mixed success to becoming the physician of the French royal family, this is a tale of an individual who was not afraid to reveal his true self at a time when this was certainly frowned upon.Inside you will read about...✓ Early Years as a Doctor✓ Altercation with the Inquisition✓ The Start of the Occult✓ The Prophet of Satan✓ Nostradamus’ Predictions✓ Sharlatan or VisionaryAnd much more! The story of Nostradamus is tougher to determine than one would have ever imagined. Considering the books that have been written about his predictions, his own story is often shrouded in mystery. That is a mystery which we are going to attempt to undo as far as the historical sources will allow us. How exactly did this man go from a small village in the south of France to becoming one of the most famous people alive at the time? How has he managed to stay relevant in the world today? Was he as good at predicting the future as some believed him to be? These are all pertinent questions, and by the end of this book, you will have hopefully been able to piece together some of the answers to the questions that you have about the individual known simply as, Nostradamus.

Irish Black Widow : The True Story of Annie Monahan

by Cara Davidson

Annie Monahan was arguably the most successful “black widow” of the early twentieth century when you factor in the time it took for authorities to finally catch up with her. She had killed three husbands and her own niece, garnering sizable payouts from life insurance companies as she acted as a beneficiary in all of the cases. She performed these acts of murder in the sleepy town of New Haven, Connecticut, dealing with police who always seem to be one step behind her.
Monahan grew bolder with each murder, increasing payout amounts in each case and even marrying the younger brother of a man she had killed.

All the Presidents' Memories: How they Reconstruct the Past, Manage the Present and Shape the Future; Volume I

by Henry Roth

The memories described in this book reflect not only how eleven American Presidents remembered what happened to them in their youth, but also a kind of psychological shorthand of their beliefs, attitudes, cognitive biases and foibles. A negative memory may have provided guidance in situations the President viewed as dangerous, whereas a positive memory may have provided guidance in situations viewed as promising. By examining the early memories of the Presidents, it is possible to discover how, for example: Abraham Lincoln's amusing memory of a boyhood caper provided an unusual perspective on his character and his lasting appeal as a great storyteller;Ulysses S. Grant’s memory of a business transaction revealed a hidden vulnerability; Teddy Roosevelt's memory of a fantastic childhood adventure foreshadowed his intellectual curiosity and love of nature; Dwight David Eisenhower's memory of battling with a barnyard goose influenced his negotiating style as a General and President; and Richard Nixon's harrowing memory of a childhood fall taught him to survive in a dangerous and hostile world and presaged the sense of being “kicked around” that would forever define his image. These and other Presidential memories provide both telling and entertaining insights into the minds and actions of our American leaders.
