Detours, Discipleship and Dangling Participles (A Truck Driver's Stories, Poems and Songs)

by Richard P. Ware

Then the master said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled (Luke 23:14)

“A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do!” I made that statement to my mother over 30 years ago. It was one of those times when I had a better idea to do a project I was working on. My mother who was watching as the intelligence light bulb flickered asked me why I was doing it that way. That’s when I uttered those words. Of course once I finished the project and it didn’t end up as I had planned, mom repeated those words back to me… “Well I guess a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.” For the rest of her life when I would stumble down the road or end up stuck in the ditch of life, mom reminded me with those remark...

Unspoken Love during the Vietnam War (The Poem)

by Zero Mandingo

This poem was written in 1975, and hidden away for 37 years.

At that time there was no avenue for anything that referred to same sex love.

It was written in a loose iambic pentameter, octave rhyme, as a form of cloaking the subject matter. It was written as a catharsis and for an English class -- the Professor rejected it.

It is a story poem of disaster on a Navy ship, and the display of spiritual love of one man for another.

It is being told by myself. It is what I saw. IT IS NOT EROTICA.
I recently added Unspoken Love During the Vietnam War - a short story.

Home

by Uvi Poznansky and Zeev Kachel

Home. A simple word; a loaded one. You can say it in a whisper; you can say it in a cry. Expressed in the voices of father and daughter, you can hear a visceral longing for an ideal place, a place never to be found again.

Imagine the shock, imagine the sadness when a daughter discovers her father’s work, the poetry he had never shared with anyone during the last two decades of his life. Six years after that moment of discovery, which happened in her childhood home while mourning for his passing, Uvi Poznansky presents a tender tribute: a collection of poems and prose, half of which is written by her, and half—by her father, the author, poet and artist Zeev Kachel. She has been translating his poems for nearly a year, with careful attention to rhyme and rhythm, in an effor...

A Doll's House (Wisehouse Classics)

by Henrik Ibsen

A DOLL’S HOUSE (Bokmål: Et dukkehjem; also translated as A Doll House) is a three-act play in prose by Henrik Ibsen. It premiered at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 21 December 1879, having been published earlier that month. The play is significant for its critical attitude toward 19th-century marriage norms. It aroused great controversy at the time, as it concludes with the protagonist, Nora, leaving her husband and children because she wants to discover herself. Ibsen was inspired by the belief that “a woman cannot be herself in modern society,” since it is “an exclusively male society, with laws made by men and with prosecutors and judges who assess feminine conduct from a masculine standpoint.” Its ideas can also be seen as having a wider application: Michael Mey...

Glorious Tedious Transformation: poems of change (Glorious Tedious Transformatin Book 1)

by Michael R. Patton

In the words of the author: “These poems talk of the great, heroic process of change. These poems talk of the slow, painful process of change. I can't say they offer a prescription. However, in writing them, I found some medicine. So perhaps, in reading them, you will find some too.” If GLORIOUS TEDIOUS TRANSFORMATION is indeed medicine, it’s neither bitter, nor too sappy sweet. Because Michael Patton’s poetry is written in a deceptively simple style, the verse is accessible, but without being superficial. GTT is not just about the author's personal experience, but about the human experience....

Matter of Spirit

by Garrison Clifford Gibson

The poems of Christian, philosophical and social interest by G. Clifford Gibson follow the philosophical pursuit of truth with social and material development across the Universe or Universes of thought recognizing the spiritual essence of reality-in-itself and the steady-state quantum entanglement of mass in the Higgs Field as a phenomenal actualization of God. A Christian philosophical poet, the author's ideas for developing spiritual understanding of the dichotomy of spiritual and secular worlds cohere in many of the poems....

Chaucer and the Poets: An Essay on Troilus and Criseyde

by Winthrop Weatherbee

In this sensitive reading of Chaucer’s Troilus and Criseyde, Winthrop Wetherbee redefines the nature of Chaucer’s poetic vision. Using as a starting point Chaucer’s profound admiration for the achievement of Dante and the classical poets, Wetherbee sees the Troilus as much more than a courtly treatment of an event in ancient history—it is, he asserts, a major statement about the poetic tradition from which it emerges. Wetherbee demonstrates the evolution of the poet-narrator of the Troilus, who begins as a poet of romance, bound by the characters’ limited worldview, but who in the end becomes a poet capable of realizing the tragic and ultimately the spiritual implications of his story....
