The Little Demon Who Couldn't: A Devilishly Witty, Folktale-Inspired Historical Urban Fantasy Novel

by Odelia Floris

Little Murmur is doing a poor job of being a demon. His nose is hardly hooked, his chin is round, his fingernails short and not remotely talon-like, and he is so lazy that he can barely be bothered spreading evil and mischief among man. His father is not impressed, and neither are his two older brothers. But still young Murmur prefers to spend his nights lazing in the abandoned churchyard over the wall from his back garden. After all, lying on the lid of the old mayor’s tombstone gazing up at the stars is much easier than finding humans to incite to acts of evil. And it is a deal safer too; little chance here of crossing paths with the demons’ nemesis, the angels. But the other demons are not happy. Something must be done about Murmur. He needs to be turned into a proper mean, God-mock...

Aesop's Fables (Wisehouse Classics Edition)

by Aesop and George Fyler Townsend

AESOP'S FABLES or the AESOPICA is a collection of fables credited to Aesop, a slave and storyteller believed to have lived in ancient Greece between 620 and 560 BCE. Of diverse origins, the stories associated with Aesop's name have descended to modern times through a number of sources. They continue to be reinterpreted in different verbal registers and in popular as well as artistic media. The fables were in the first instance only narrated by Aesop, and for a long time were handed down by the uncertain channel of oral tradition. Socrates is mentioned by Plato as having employed his time while in prison, awaiting the return of the sacred ship from Delphos which was to be the signal of his death, in turning some of these fables into verse, but he thus versified only such as he remembered. De...

Dumb ?

by Al Molaison

A retelling of what appears to be the original golden goose story but called Dumming in a Spanish collection. The names in my story are mine and are meant to be amusing but also instructive. At one time fairy tales could be harsh and grim. But we decided that unfit for youngsters, so they were rewritten and the violence mostly removed. These became the standard tales that older adults read to children. Now on various sites in the public domain the originals are showing up, and they are worth reading.
Those of us who enjoy rewriting fairy tales usually have a point-of-view. For example when I rewrote Rumpelstilskin, I wanted to tell his side of the story with some humor added.
I created a teacher named Mrs. Ima Wordlover who frequently rewrites fairy tales and shares them wit...
